– In recognition of his remarkable life and lasting impact on the world,
Greater Louisville Inc., the Metro Chamber of Commerce, is proud to present the
Thomas A. Edison Award posthumously to Muhammad Ali.
Greatest” is Louisville’s most famous son. Known globally for his
unmatchable skills inside the boxing ring, Ali left a lasting impact on the
world around him with his boundless energy, warm personality, and tireless
fight for peace, social justice, and compassion. Long after his boxing career
ended he worked hard to improve not only the city of his birth, but also the
world around him, guided by his six core principles: confidence, conviction,
dedication, giving, respect, and spirituality.
decision to found the Muhammad Ali Center in downtown Louisville created an
international destination for his millions of admirers. And perhaps most
importantly, it is a tangible opportunity to teach lessons of perseverance,
patience, grace, and humility to all those who pass through its doors. His motto
to “be great, do great things” is one to which everyone can aspire and just one
of many reasons Greater Louisville Inc. has chosen to honor him this year.
Thomas A. Edison Award was created in 2001 to recognize an outstanding former
Louisville resident who has successfully pursued their career while keeping
this community close to their heart. It is designed to celebrate these
leaders and recognize the widespread impact this region has had on the world.
Unlike some awards, the Thomas A. Edison Award is not automatically presented
each year. Rather, it is awarded in recognition of extraordinary achievement
and commitment to our community.

Thomas A, Edison Award will be presented at GLI’s Annual Meeting the evening of
January 25th, 2017 at the Louisville Palace Theatre.
