Ambassador Spotlight: Laura Jones
Name: Laura Jones
Title: Director of Client Experience
Company: Dale Carnegie Training – Kentucky, Southern Indiana, and Southern Ohio
How long have you been a GLI Ambassador?: 2 Years
What is your favorite part about being a GLI Ambassador? I love going to Ribbon Cuttings, learning about new and growing business in the Louisville area. It is inspiring to see the unique business concepts, often times revitalized buildings or much needed additions to an area, and the excitement from the business’s team as their vision and hard work comes to fruition!
A fun fact about me is…I have an Equine Administration Degree from U of L, worked thoroughbred breeding and sales for many years, and this summer rode in my first horse show in over 30 years. Less than a week later I rode in my 2nd and won first place!
What is the best career advice you’ve received? Volunteer. Specifically volunteer within your organization for tasks and projects outside your regular role and responsibilities. You will learn more about the business, be able to demonstrate your skills and abilities, and build relationships across the company. In return, you’ll stand out for potential advancement opportunities.” The founder of a company I previously worked for told me this. Following his advice, I experienced many job opportunities created for myself and others simply because I was always eager to take on additional responsibilities and demonstrate a business need.
What does being a GLI investor mean to you? The team at GLI genuinely partners with your business for success! As our regional franchise is under new ownership, they have been invaluable in providing resources, making connections, and assisting us with a strategic marketing plan of how to make the most of our investment in GLI. It is not a static membership, if you are not actively making the most of your investment the development team will follow-up periodically to see how GLI can best serve your business.
What is your favorite thing to do in Louisville? The accessibility to enjoy all of our area’s beautiful natural resources! The Olmstead Parks, Waterfront Park, The Parklands, all of the local hiking trails, even our wonderful Zoo! I love to take advantage of our long overdue Big Four walking bridge followed by a fabulous meal at one our outstanding local restaurants.
What do you do to make greater Louisville GREATER? I have always had a passion to help people and being a Dale Carnegie trainer gives me a unique opportunity to not only help people advance professionally but also improve their personal relationships by building their essential skills, including interpersonal skills, communication, and leadership to name a few. It’s rewarding to know each individual we work with in our trainings is taking away skills to have better interactions and relationships with their co-workers, friends, family, and everyone they meet. One participant at a time we can have a ripple effect to not only impact a business’s culture but make our community an even friendlier place to live.
