October Ambassador Spotlight: Kendra Simon

Name: Kendra Simon

Title: Manager of Outreach

Company: Home of the Innocents

How long have you been a GLI Ambassador? A little over a year.

What is your favorite part about being a GLI Ambassador?

Meeting and supporting local business leaders and celebrating their milestones and victories along the way.

A fun fact about me is..
I can, and often do, name the 50 states in alphabetical order thanks to a song from an elementary school play that has taken up permanent occupancy in my memory. The fact piece is certain, the fun factor is definitely debatable based on my audience!!

What is the best career advice you’ve received?

Never underestimate the power of listening. Talking the most or the loudest doesn’t equate to effective leadership. The ability to hear what is said and broaching the vital topics that aren’t is a true skill of an effective leader.

What does being a GLI investor mean to you?

It offers an opportunity for me to reciprocate support within our community. I am able to remain connected and keep a pulse on key initiatives, new business ventures, and trends within the area.

What is your favorite thing to do in Louisville?

That’s a tough one! There is always something to do in Lou, so it all depends on the season. I enjoy supporting local businesses, especially dog-friendly ones, paddle boarding in Long Run and Harrods Creek, biking the Louisville Loop, cheering on our local sports teams, especially Lou City, Racing Lou, and the Bats, listening to live music, checking out the various neighborhood fest and fairs. Honestly, there’s no shortage of things to do!

What do you do to make greater Louisville GREATER?

I’m fortunate to work in a profession that positively impacts the lives of children, our future generation, every day. Personally, I strive to remain present within my environment and lend a hand where beneficial – someone struggling with too much to carry, forgetting a personal belonging, holding the door. It’s often the simplest of gestures that create the most impact.
