GLI announces San Antonio, Texas as destination for 2024 GLIDE trip
Louisville, Ky. (January 9, 2024) – Greater Louisville Inc.’s annual trip to study growing cities, Greater Louisville Idea Development Expedition (GLIDE), will take more than 130 business leaders to San Antonio, Texas later this year. The 39th annual trip will dive into how San Antonio has achieved accelerated economic and population growth, becoming a top 10 most populous U.S. city.
GLIDE is an annual, exclusive program for GLI investors, including community representatives, elected officials, entrepreneurs, education delegates and business leaders, to see how a selected city has overcome obstacles and achieved success. GLIDE San Antonio presented by Norton Healthcare will explore specific economic development tools and assets San Antonio has used to grow its economy; how they have leveraged their downtown culture and culinary scene to promote development; ways they have retained, developed, and attracted talent; and how they are collaborating with neighboring regions.
“I am looking forward to bringing GLIDE back to another Texas city and learning from San Antonio’s successes. From the famous Riverwalk to a fast-growing population, I believe there is a lot our business community can see and learn from this city and bring back to create new opportunities in Greater Louisville,” said Sarah Davasher-Wisdom, president and CEO, GLI.
GLIDE San Antonio will be held September 4 – 6. Registration is now open for GLI’s Top Investors and will open to all GLI investors on February 11. Click here to learn more and register.
“Learning from other communities is an invaluable opportunity to glean new ideas, strategies, and perspectives for growing the Greater Louisville region. Not only will GLIDE present opportunities to see the sites of San Antonio, but we will also talk directly with organizations that are leading the growth,” said Kim Halbauer, regional president, Fifth Third Bank, and Chair of GLIDE San Antonio.
Last year, GLI took nearly 150 business leaders to Boston, Massachusetts for the program’s first ever visit to the northeast. Major takeaways from GLIDE Boston included increasing access to talent and investment in placemaking, and stronger storytelling through national marketing. Later this month, GLI is launching a national marketing campaign to drive economic development leads into its regional pipeline through funding provided by Louisville Metro Government. Previous GLIDE destinations also include Jacksonville, Indianapolis, San Francisco, Nashville, Austin, and Charlotte.
