Louisville, KY. (December 7, 2023) – Last night, Greater Louisville Inc. (GLI) hosted the final event in its Capitol Connection series, presented by Norton Healthcare, at the Crowne Plaza Hotel. The evening included the annual unveiling of GLI’s 2024 State Legislative Agenda, recognition of GLI’s 2023 Most Valuable Policymakers (MVPs), and a bi-partisan panel discussion that crossed levels of government and covered the region’s most pressing economic and community issues.
GLI’s 2024 State Legislative Agenda compiles the business community’s top policy priorities for driving economic growth and creating a pro-business environment in the year ahead. The 2024 Agenda includes ongoing support for long-term priorities and a focus on new, forward-thinking policies that will make the region more competitive. Key priorities include local tax reform, enhancements to the Kentucky Business Investment program to create more incentives for high-paying jobs, funding for regional talent attraction campaigns, and strengthening public safety measures.
“Our regional economy has seen accelerated growth in recent years in part because of our advocacy wins focused on creating a more business-friendly environment,” said Sarah Davasher-Wisdom, president and CEO of Greater Louisville Inc. “In 2023, we made progress in advocating for transformational policies, and I am optimistic that the priorities outlined in our 2024 Legislative Agenda will lead to continued economic growth.”
Additional priorities outlined in the State Legislative Agenda include funding for the child care sector to increase workforce participation, expanding funding for K-12 and higher education, and policies to support development of more affordable housing.
“GLI’s State Legislative Agenda reflects successful collaboration among GLI’s investors, community partners, and stakeholders in addressing crucial issues in our community,” Les Fugate, chair of GLI’s Public Policy Council and Vice President, Director of State and Local Public Affairs at Brown-Forman. “I am confident that between the support of the business community and GLI’s skilled team, we will see many wins for our regional economy in the upcoming legislative session.”
The Capitol Connection event concluded with a bi-partisan panel discussion between Mayor Craig Greenberg, Speaker of the House David Osborne, House Majority Whip Jason Nemes, Senate Majority Caucus Chair Julie Raque Adams, and Senate Minority Floor Leader Gerald Neal, moderated by Riggs Lewis, System Vice President of Health Policy at Norton Healthcare.
