MEET 2024 POWER TO PROSPER PARTICIPANT: DESMOND MARTIN

Our Power to Prosper Accelerator is all about giving minority-owned businesses the skills and connections they need to move to the next level and grow here in Greater Louisville. The accelerator, valued at $15,000 per individual, is offered free to participants through the generous funding of Papa Johns and Suntory Global Spirits. This program teaches business owners critical business skills like development strategies, strategic planning, financial management skills, marketing & sales, human resources, how to access capital, and how to contract with the government and major corporations.

What inspired you to join the Power to Prosper program?

  • Joining the Power to Prosper GLI Cohort Program was a strategic decision aimed at propelling my business to new heights. My primary goals revolve around scaling my business and enhancing operational efficiency. Through this program, I am eager to gain invaluable insights, tools, and resources that will empower me to navigate growth opportunities effectively. I believe that by participating in this program, I will acquire the knowledge and strategies necessary to elevate my business and achieve sustainable success in the ever-evolving real estate industry.

Where do you see your business in the next 5 to 10 years? How do you believe the Power to Prosper program will help you in reaching those long-term goals?

  • In the next 5 to 10 years, I envision my business as a well-established and self-sustainable entity, where I transition from day-to-day operations to a more strategic role. My aim is to expand our footprint into multiple states, specifically Ohio, Indiana, and Georgia, and venture into commercial real estate development. The Power to Prosper program holds immense potential in aiding me to achieve these long-term aspirations. Through its comprehensive curriculum and access to industry experts, I anticipate gaining the knowledge, skills, and networks necessary to scale my business effectively. By learning best practices in operations, finance, and growth strategies, I’ll be better equipped to navigate the complexities of expansion while maintaining sustainable profitability. Additionally, the program’s emphasis on leadership development will equip me with the strategic mindset needed to steer the company towards continued success, allowing me to focus on high-level decision-making and strategic partnerships as we pursue ambitious growth opportunities.

What’s your favorite thing about living and doing business in Louisville?

  • My favorite aspect of living and doing business in Louisville is the vibrant culinary scene. Louisville offers an incredible array of dining options, from local favorites to international cuisines, catering to every palate. Additionally, as a proud Louisville Cardinals fan, cheering on our team brings a sense of community and excitement to the city. And of course, indulging in a glass of bourbon, a quintessential Kentucky tradition, adds to the charm of living here. Doing business in my hometown is particularly fulfilling because it allows me to contribute to the local economy while also serving as an inspiration to aspiring entrepreneurs. Showing others that success can be achieved right here in Louisville is incredibly rewarding, and I take pride in being part of this thriving business community.
